PETALING JAYA: More students from Chinese schools will be receiving The Star’s Step Up pullout thanks to PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd’s RM50,000 contribution.

The Star executive director and group chief editor Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai received the cheque from PKT Logistics’ chief executive Datuk Michael Tio.

Also present during the function at Menara Star here yesterday was PKT Logistics’ chairman Datuk Jalilah Baba.

Tio said the sponsorship would help to educate more children on the importance of English, which was increasingly becoming a pre-requisite at most workplaces.

“Looking at the current trend, most youngsters are not aware that English plays an important role in life after formal education.

PKT Logistics had also sponsored RM50,000 for the pullout last year.

Step Up is a 24-page bilingual education pullout for vernacular schools, offering an engaging and exciting method to teach and learn English.

It is similar to The Star’s NiE (Newspaper-in-Education) in terms of interactivity, providing a platform for students to submit their works for discussion as well as mini contests and four revision issues.

The full-colour, syllabus-based pullout is approved by the Education Ministry and is published every alternate Thursdays, twice a month for pupils from Years Four to Six.

Subscription is via schools only. For further information, call 03-7967 1777 from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
