SHAH ALAM: In line with the company’s support of English education, PKT Logistics contributed RM60,000 to Step Up, a new pullout by The Star to improve English language skills among students of Chinese schools.

PKT Logistics chairman Datuk Jalilah Baba presented a mock cheque to Star Publications (M) Bhd executive director and The Star group chief editor Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai at the PKT Logistics warehouse in Section 32 here.

Step Up is a 24-page bilingual education pullout catering to the linguistic needs of teachers and pupils, with the element of excitement that The Star’s NiE brings to the classroom.

It is a syllabus-based pullout approved by the Education Ministry and prepares pupils in Years Four, Five and Six for the UPSR examination.

Jalilah said the move would help to develop students’ English proficiency through early exposure to the language.

“This will give them a head start by preparing them for courses taught in English at secondary school and university level,” she said, adding that the donation was part of the company’s community development initiative.

PKT Logistics group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Michael B.Y. Tio said Step Up was a focused programme that ensured the donations reach the students.
