THE 12 Waves, One Auto Hub in Batu Kawan, Penang, has won the Fiabci-Malaysia Property Award 2019 (MPA 2019) in the Industrial category.

The 12 Waves is PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd’s fourth generation warehouse after The Ship, The Waves and The Lighthouse warehouses in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Located in the fast-growing Batu Kawan Industrial Area, The 12 Waves is a central component in PKT’s integrated One Auto Hub development which will also contain components such as The Ship Campus, The Automotive Boulevard, The Lighthouse Lodge and The Andaman Wharf.

“We are very honoured to take home this award as we never thought an integrated logistics provider like ourselves would win a Fiabci-MPA award.

“This award truly recognises the efforts made by PKT in transforming the logistics industry through world-class warehouse concepts that are environmentally-friendly and serve the needs of the community, ” said PKT Logistics group chief executive and managing director Datuk Michael Tio at the award presentation ceremony and gala dinner.

The 12 Waves is a 650,000sq ft warehouse with state-of-the-art features such as solar panels, natural lighting and ventilation and an advanced security and surveillance system.

Besides that, The 12 Waves also contains a truckers’ lounge, service area with a food court, convenience store, shower facilities and a nature walk featuring a Japanese garden.

The nature walk stretches over 750m on the northern perimeter of the warehouse, fronting the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge and is accessible to the public.

The garden features Mori Forest, a Koi Pond and a Tea House, all set in a garden lined with 118 tecoma trees.

The 12 Waves was designed by Kun Lim Architect and strikes a balance between respect for nature and technological advancement.

It is designed to seize the contextual advantage available; mainly the hot and humid weather in Malaysia.

The architecture is anchored by its roof, which is characterised by waves moving towards the sea.

The roof is designed in response to local weather that produces high intensity rainfall. It will efficiently harvest rainwater for various purposes.

The proportion of the roof of each wave is also calibrated to allow optimal natural lighting and ventilation in order to reduce energy consumption.

This correlates with PKT Logistics Group’s mission statement to build environmentally-friendly warehouses.

The 12 Waves entered the Malaysia Book of Records in August 2018 as “The Longest Warehouse and The Biggest Single Storey Warehouse in Malaysia.”
