PETALING JAYA: Believing in communication as the key to success has brought rich rewards to PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd which bagged the Malaysian Business of the Year Award at The Star Business Awards (SOBA) 2012.

PKT Logistics group chief executive and managing director Datuk Michael Tio said communication was a key factor needed to survive in today’s business environment.

He said that among the mega trends of the business world was in communication as more chief executive officers and billionaires were below 40 years old now.

Tio observed that global companies that did not embrace new technology gradually face demise, while those that did could achieve success quickly.

“A lot of companies bar Facebook at work, which is not the right move. We are a Facebook-compulsory company, meaning the whole organisation uses Facebook. I take pride in saying that the response time between myself and my staff is 30 seconds,” he said.

He believed that with the majority of Internet users and almost all of the Gen-Y people on Facebook, “if you ban it at work, you are just asking for trouble”.

PKT won two silver and a gold awards at SOBA 2011.

CleanPro Laundry Holdings Sdn Bhd project director Chan Huei Ning said the company, after bagging the Rising Star Award, would use this opportunity to further develop and share its business plan with its future and existing customers.

“Based on our existing business growth, we are confident of the prospects in the coming years such as sales,” he said, adding that the company was the pioneer in self-service laundry in Malaysia.

The accolade was awarded to the best new and up-and-coming local enterprise that displayed great potential to become a successful player in the local and international market.
